Sandy Morrice Reductions

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:48 am by kim

New Year 2008 is almost upon us and already we are thinking of clearing the shelves to make room for exciting new work! Sandy has started the ball rolling by reducing most of her work and I will be adding some reductions myself in the next few days!

I just received a shipment of Bullseye glass which I bought when I recently visited the Bullseye Factory in Portland and there are some fab colours – now I just have to build pigeonholes to store it all so that I can get to work!

Check out all reduced items in the SALE ITEMS section of the shop!

Have a GR8 New Year’s Eve and I hope 2008 brings fulfillment to your lives, health and happiness and above all that at least some of your dreams come true!

Bev Butler joins the team!

We are proud to welcome Bev Butler to the Northcoast Beadmakers team! Bev was a production potter before getting bitten by the glass bug. The consistantly high standard of her work and its aesthetic appeal definitely reflects her discipline! Bev also does some electroformed work which is a first for the Northcoast Beadmakers site! Check out her fabulous gallery or to find out more about Bev visit her artist page. Below are a couple of photos of Bev’s work.

Welcome to Su Bishop ……… !

Another new artist has joined our ranks. Su Bishop is currently living in Exmouth, Western Australia and although Sue hasn’t been lampworking for a long time, she is producing some fabulous work, very obviously influenced by the proximity of the world famous Ningaloo Reef. Su and her husband Al spend a lot of time enjoying the visual feast Ningaloo has to offer as well as spoiling their French Bulldog, Frufie the “fur baby”!! Check out Su’s Gallery when you have a minute!! Here’s a photo link just to whet the appetite!!

Check out Christine’s latest offerings in the gifts section of the shop! Some fabulous beaded treasures that offer a really significantly different gift option!

Christine has also listed a whole heap of new focal and unique beads in her gallery and we are working to add some more sets! Jingle bells, jingle bells…………

Christmas is coming at A+R Store

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:28 am by kim

I’m back from the USA now after having a blast spending time with family in LA, Larry Brickman in Eureka and also at the Bullseye Factory in Portland, Oregon. I just have to share with you some images of the new Venice store that Andy and Rose recently opened – it was certainly a highlight of my trip to be able to help Rose with some re-organising in their Silverlake store. To check out their phenomenal website click here – it’s not too late for some Xmas shopping I’m sure!! I’ll be updating the site again shortly with some special Xmas gifts from the crew, meantime, PANIC!! Christmas is just around the corner……..!!

Global Design Emporium A+R Doubles Your Pleasure

Venice, Calif. – A+R, the modern design source for a curated range of home and personal accessories from around the world, introduces a second freestanding shop at 1121-1 Abbot Kinney Boulevard (t 310 392 9128), just blocks from Venice’s famed boardwalk and Muscle Beach.

This Westside outpost is double in size to the original A+R in Silverlake, and opens in November 2007, the second anniversary of that shop. It also bows just a year since went live. The e-commerce store counts fans from New Zealand to Berlin, who shop the handpicked range by founders Andy Griffith and Rose Apodaca.

With the expanded Venice address, Andy+Rose have a larger showcase for the alternative lighting, minimal Scandinavian kitchen tools, German soft toys, quirky French and Italian porcelain, graphic British bedding, Laurel Canyon-crafted jewelry, Danish audiophile headsets, Silverlake-artist rendered belt buckles and many other modern-minded work that has put A+R on the international design radar in two fast and furious years. Jamie Hayon from Barcelona, Maxim Velčovský of Qubus Studios in the Czech Republic, Science & Sons in Vancouver, B.C., and Brooks Salzwedel of L.A. are among the sought-after designers whom A+R has been thrilled to carry first in the U.S.

The new 450-square-foot space retains the cheery green, blue, red and white DNA, with an upgrade in materials and sensibility thanks to the interior collaboration between star architect Barbara Bestor and Andy+Rose. Now in the mix: Mahogany-veneered cabinetry, white powder-coated shelving and finishes, and plenty of cork details.

The shop is in the brand-new, award-winning building by Michael Sant of Sant Architects, whose office is just up the street. Sant has taken extreme care in selecting the tenants of the commercial space downstairs and the glass-walled lofts above to reflect the architectural aesthetic and public-private mission of the project. A+R sits between the new luxe beauty shop Vert, owned by Hollywood makeup artist Renata Helfman, and the yummy 3 Square Bakey + Café, helmed by renowned chefs Wolfgang Gussmack and Hans Röckenwagner.

A+R is Andy Griffith and Rose Apodaca.
A British expat, Andy is a former film editor and self-avowed design junkie and foodie. Rose Apodaca is a culture and style journalist who helmed the Los Angeles bureau of Women’s Wear Daily and W for six years before resigning her post to focus on A+R and related projects. She continues to contribute to major fashion publications, just released her first book with a leading celeb fashion stylist and has her own style blog on Uber.

The two hooked up just nine months before A+R opened in late 2005. And this is just the start.
